Hair Associate

The Wash Bar is seeking a talented and passionate Hair Associate to join our growing team. As a Hair Associate, you will specialize in preparing, maintaining, and removing protective styles for natural hair. Our goal is to provide clients with the best care before, during, and after protective styles, ensuring healthy hair at every stage. Key Responsibilities:

● Hair Prep & Maintenance: ○ Prepping natural hair for protective styles, ensuring the hair is clean, detangled, and properly conditioned.

○ Maintain and refresh protective styles (e.g., braids, twists, locs, weaves) by providing care and touch-ups throughout the styling period.

○ Apply nourishing treatments that promote healthy hair growth and moisture retention while clients wear protective styles.

● Protective Style Removal: ○ Safely and gently remove protective styles, ensuring minimal damage to natural hair.

○ Provide deep cleansing and moisturizing treatments after the removal of styles to restore hair and scalp health.

● Client Hair Care: ○ Recommend hair care products and treatments to help maintain the integrity of protective styles.

○ Assist clients in understanding their natural hair type and suggest suitable protective styles for their hair goals.

● Salon Maintenance & Cleanliness: ○ Maintain a clean and sanitized workspace, including washing stations and styling areas, in line with health and safety regulations.

○ Keep all tools, equipment, and products organized and sanitized after each use.

○ Assist in restocking salon products and ensure the workspace remains neat and inviting.

● Customer Service & Client Relations: ○ Deliver excellent customer service and create a welcoming, positive experience for clients.

○ Build strong client relationships by providing professional, friendly service and offering personalized hair care advice.

○ Actively listen to client concerns, providing thoughtful recommendations based on their unique hair needs.

● Team Collaboration: ○ Work alongside other team members to ensure smooth operations and client satisfaction.

○ Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for service improvements and client care.

Qualifications:

● Experience: ○ At least 1 year of experience in a salon or natural hair care environment.

○ Specialization in protective styling prep, maintenance, and removal is a plus.

○ Experience with natural hair textures and a wide range of protective styles (braids, twists, locs, weaves, etc.) is preferred.

● Skills: ○ Strong knowledge of natural hair care, including hair treatments, maintenance, and styling techniques for protective styles.

○ Ability to apply hair care treatments that support the health of natural hair before, during, and after protective styles.

○ Excellent customer service skills with a focus on delivering a great client experience.

○ Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and professional attitude.

○ Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

● Licensing & Certification:

○ Cosmetology license not required.

Physical Requirements:

● Ability to stand for extended periods.

● Ability to lift and carry salon equipment and products up to 25 pounds.

● Good manual dexterity to work with hair tools and styling equipment.

Work Environment:

● The role is based in a busy salon with exposure to hair care products and styling tools.
